Overview
A gala concert comprised of opera's greatest arias and scenes performed by singers in Iford Arts young artists programme.
Director's Notes
As the concert was performed on top of the set for La bohème I created an immersive environment that evoked Cafe Momus with audience members seated at tables onstage.
The programme included a mix of songs from classic opera to musical theatre about the trials and tribulations of love. To provide audiences and performers with a cohesive context for the songs I created a narrative through line of two pairs of lovers falling in-and-out of love with each other.
Drawing inspiration from the two songs that bookended the evening -- Mozart's Papageno-Papagena Duet and Spamalot's The Song That Goes Like This -- the tone of the concert was light and playful, allowing audiences to laugh at the follies and fickleness of love.
